Curriculum Intent - Art

At Spa Academy Askern, it is our intent that through Art we expose all children, including our most disadvantaged pupils, to cultural experiences and background knowledge that will equip them with cultural knowledge and an appreciation of human creativity and achievement, to propel them further in their education, careers and social development. We don’t just aim for pupils to experience the arts and culture but to actively take part and create their own as participants. This is achieved through our ambitious Art teaching sequence: - explore & develop; formal elements; research; compose; ‘big picture’.

We utilise Kapow as a resource and our intention is that pupils develop problem solving, creative thinking, research, communication and teamwork skills. We aim for them to gain the ability to develop, refine and present their own ideas, and ensure they are taught the use of sketchbooks to record these. Pupils will also develop techniques in the use of different materials, including Pencil, Charcoal, Paint and Clay.

Throughout the pupils’ KS2 Art education at Spa Academy, they revisit their challenging prior learning, which allows them to build new learning sequentially, and ensures that every pupil then knows more and is able to do more.
